@Anthony Ali Hi. You're using pearl barter values from the most recent version of Minecraft, which is a 2.18% chance of dropping 2-4 pearls. Speedrunners play on version 1.16.1, which is a 4.7% chance (I think? I know it's just under 5%) of dropping 4-8 pearls. Overall pearl output on 1.16.1 is something like 10 times higher. Hope that helps. I also count more like 60 ingots traded, depending on how many piglins were still trading when he left. Overall, assuming average-ish pearls per barter, he likely had 4 pearl barters out of the 60, which is 6.7%, slightly above average. He was also in need of six obsidian, having gotten only 4 from the bastion chests. Obsidian trades at 8.8% rates currently (1 each). I'm not sure if they were different in 1.16.1 but have heard speedrunners talking about it as if it's roughly 1 in 10, so if it's changed, it's not by much. 6 obsidian from 60 trades is obviously exactly 10%. The final item (aside from fire resistance, which almost always drops at least once) that many runners require from piglins is string, but Illumina already had his beds, so string was irrelevant.

@The Holy C.I.A The chance of getting 6 blaze rods from 7 blazes is 5.47%. He traded 46 gold ingots and got 23 ender pearls from it. The odds of getting an ender pearl per gold ingot is approx 2.18%. Yet he got 50% which the odds of that are approx 0.0001%. I wouldn't call that likely

@Petrusjeh If you asked speedrunners themselves they'd probably vote about 85% for Illumina as the best of all time. There's no such thing as a perfectly optimized or a flawless run in random seed glitchless. Illumina lost about ten seconds to missing that he'd picked up the piglin gold; that's not much in a run like this.

@Petrusjeh we are talking about a speed runner with insane pedigree. You also need to consider this is a non F3 run which is much slower and more difficult. He also played incredibly well and quite conservative by only taking 5 beds which helped him get the run. Maybe their are better runners now but that’s like saying Eddie Van Halen was an average guitarist because loads of new players can play eruption. The fact that an old school runner took the record while at a notable disadvantage by not using F3 is an incredible achievement. Context is important and Illumina has done more for MC speedrunning than anyone else on top of being a true sportsman. Heck, once he even noticed that a 2nd place record from a competitor had been slightly mistimed and was faster than his WR, he could have kept quiet but quietly pointed this out to the mods. Stand up guy and the reason MC speedrunning is what it is today.

@Hood Raccoon no, his number was 1 in 20 sextillion, the 7.5 trillion is the chance any Minecraft speed runner will ever get that lucky in any variable. Watch geosquares or Karl’s videos. When did he prove that maths incorrect? His video and paper were an absolute joke and he was right to take them down. Even then his own “expert” agreed that he cheated. Yes there’s a chance but if you honestly believe that makes his run remotely believable or feasible then your beyond reasoning with. I get you don’t want to believe your hero cheated but there’s no reason to reject reality and project that into others.

To put it in perspective say you selected a grain of sand, marked it and hid it somewhere on earth. Dream would have better odds finding that grain of sand first time than getting the luck he did.
